Hello, everyone welcome to another Dailyjim it is Monday August 29 and the power has gone out. So what I want to talk about today quickly is how the power has gone out and it's gone out a lot of times and just how much we rely on electricity. So um this is maybe the fifth or sixth or seventh or eighth, I don't even know the amount of time, you know, number of time that has gone out. Um the power since pandemic has really started and, it's not the whole neighborhood, it's just one little section, it typically happens wind, when the wind, when a storm comes through and the wind will hit some trees and the trees, branches or whatever fall off and hit into the power lines and it blows a transformer and the cascades and then voila, we end up without power. We're fortunate in a way that we have a backup generator, but yeah, so I mean one of the biggest pains is just that we have a, it's called a sump in the basement. It's basically, there's a water will drain into the basement into this pit and we have a sump pump which pumps all that water out typically. And you know, some houses, it's, it's just kind of a backup, just an emergency situation, but for some reason our house, the, sump runs constantly, meaning that it's constantly filling up, even if it's not raining outside, so we're not sure if there's underground spring or what, but ours and our neighbors just fills up really quick, so when the power goes out, we have to be careful that the basement doesn't flood. And so. Yeah. Anyways um I think we rely on electricity so much that we forget just how integral it is to our lives. And even here in the U. S. I know when I was living in East africa power would go out more frequently. People got used to it in a way. You know I got used to it and learning okay well I'm gonna make sure I try to keep my phones as charged as possible because who knows when the power's going to go out. But in a situation right now I have 5% left on the battery because you know phone doubles is a good flashlight. But then I forget that phone also doubles as a good non flashlight. And flashlights are pretty good at flashlights or torches for my British friends. But yeah so I'm gonna end the episode and hopefully post it before my battery dies and then go make sure that the generator stays on. So I hope you're all doing well and look forward to talking to tomorrow when I have more energy. Um literally and metaphorically figuratively. Yeah. Okay have a good night.
