Hey welcome to another Dailyjim today is Thursday two June 2022 and today I'm going to talk about. What it's like to not be inundated with so many stories or uh tv or media. So today I basically slept a lot. I wasn't feeling that well slept a lot, it's not covid I don't think I checked yesterday but I can check again the next day or two but lots of sneezing and kind of kind of throwing stuff but not not I really don't think covid too much too much sneezing I think. But anyways I didn't turn the tv on today I wasn't listening to the T. V. Or watching the tv didn't have the radio on didn't listen to any podcasts went on twitter a little bit but not too much. I went on this website called hacker news for a little bit but it's more kind of coding and some science conversations, but and very textural based so not a lot of no advertisements really and I realized just recently I went on Snapchat a little bit and maybe instagram but not not too much, and what I'm noticing is that quite a few things well one is tempo so I think tempo in life is much more important than we give it credit for, and I noticed that I often my like internal. Clock speed if you want to call it that way or kind of my internal tempo or my even external Temple can be really fast I can talk fast, I can think fast I can type fast and I can get caught up in moving very quickly at times. And not having the tv around makes me realize just how much of that is driven by some of these external tempos. So for example, I had a song stuck in my head, I watched one song on Youtube today of the guy that I wouldn't see last night. And the song got stuck in my head and it's fast and I just kept thinking I'm singing the song in my head and then I slowed down a bit. In a different song popped in my head, It's so interesting. And so I wonder, you know, when watching tv or even being on Tiktok or all these different channels where there's music, how does the tempo of that music influence our tempo? How much do we try to beat, match what's happening there and try to align ourselves with the tempo of what we hear? So tv shows, plus commercials often have music. Um Tiktok has a lot of music and things like this. So the music could be one element of tempo, but even if you're watching a video and how quickly the cuts are done and the transitions are done can also be another tempo. Um if you're in a conversation on twitter, how quickly people are replying can be another tempo, how quickly we are typing can be another tempo. So there's so many things that I think can add into the element of tempo that really change.

The external tempo, changing our kind of, our personal tempo and often it's faster there's not a lot of things out there in the media that tend to be very slow. Remember I went to watch a documentary, I believe on Pope Francis. Pope Francis and he was speaking very slowly and I found myself falling asleep. Same thing with mr Rogers. He would often speak very slowly and I would find myself falling asleep at times and you know, it's not a very good advertisement if it makes people fall asleep well, unless it's about sleeping. Um so tempo is one thing, and the other thing I just noticed is that I haven't had a lot of hunger today, and maybe it's because I'm not feeling super well, but I don't think so. Um what I noticed is that when I just looked at Snapchat right before this, some people have posted photos of the beautiful food that they're eating, and I go, oh, that looks good, and someone posted, there's a video talking about pastry tricks, and it was showing like pastry and, even me talking about pastry to you may incur, transfer some hunger to you like, oh, pastry sounds delicious. And so, having had a quiet day where I'm not interacting with a lot of people directly when I won conversations, but also not hearing a lot of people indirectly through the media, I'm not being exposed to a lot of that stuff, and so I haven't felt a huge need to eat. So I really wonder how those are just two examples about how the media media by receiving information from others on a more mass scale. How that really can affect ourselves and what it's like when we take a break. You know, maybe sometimes it's just about stepping away from that environment. We're stepping partially away from certain environments so that we're not tempted. You know like watching for example watching television with all the commercials and the music that's kind of pumping up the, the energy and the tempo, trying to make sure that people are going at who knows how many beats per minute, but then also showing food On the food network and then the commercials that pop up at 10:00 at night that say hey are you hungry? You want to go eat at Wendy's? And so look at this hamburger, it's delicious.

And so so many things kind of instilling different emotions in us and just how clear and clean it can feel when it's not there. So anyways maybe clean and clear. I mean uh more pure, more pure and meaning that the stuff is coming from internal more than just kind of imprinted on us. From the external as much. Anyways um it's about six minutes, My voice is dying out and I hope you have a good day to talk to you soon. Yeah tomorrow is friday. So I'll do one more tomorrow and then the weekend alright bye.
